Both speakers are going to discuss the most common problems that they
manage on a daily basis in their private clinical practices. This
course will present a practical approach to the diagnosis and management of
these common problems using a combination of didactic and case-based teaching.
Dr. Jacqui Neilson is one of the leading experts in the field of small animal
behavior. She has published extensively in all the major journals & texts
and lectures frequently for IVS and the other major veterinary conferences.
Dr Phil Padrid is a former professor of Pulmonary medicine at the University
of Chicago. He is the author of more than 40 peer reviewed scientific journal
articles and over 20 textbook chapters in the field, including CVT, Handbook
of Small Animal Practice, the 5-minute vet consult and Saunders manual of
small animal practice among others. His research and teaching introduced the
use of inhaled medications that has revolutionized our treatment of
asthma and bronchitis in dogs and cats. He continues to be a much sought
after speaker at ACVIM, ECVIM, ACECC, North American Conference, the Atlantic
City Conference, and the World Veterinary Congresses. His popularity as a speaker is in part due to his practical
style and innovative teaching methods that get "the whole crowd into
it" Watch out, he may make you demonstrate wheezing for the audience!!

most common behavioral problem of cats and a common reason for
banishment, relinquishment and euthanasia. However, with a a proper
diagnosis and targeted treatment plan you can control/resolve most of
this frustrating problem.

Aggressive feline behavior:
Feline aggression is often a component of elimination problems
but can also cause unrest in a multi-cat household. Learn about
feline social structure and how to reduce tension between cats.

Introducing new cats to a house:
Most cat owners just can't stop with one....however adding cats
to the household can also add the headaches of intercat aggression and
elimination problems. Help educate your clients about the best
ways to prevent problems as their feline family grows.

Feline fear, phobias and compulsive behaviors: we will explore common
feline fears, phobias and compulsive behaviors with appropriate
treatment options.

Unruly and Annoying Behaviors: Plant eating, scratching, jumping on
counters, wakening owners at night are all complaints of cat owners.

Diagnostic tests in small animal respiratory
medicine- starting with physical exam (anatomic diagnosis like Dr D used
to do in neurology), moving thru the common and novel testing approaches
(such as use pulse ox in the awake patient with pneumonia, heart failure
to decide need to hospitalize, response to therapy etc)

Feline asthma including use of inhaled medications
-includes comparisions with human asthmatics, included our experience in
the last 5 years using inhaled meds on about 150 cats and about 50 dogs
- vidoes of cats with asthma that are open mouth breathing that
get inhaled albuterol and are fine within 5 minutes for example
