While some of the world’s finest actors celebrate their Golden Globe awards
and Oscar nods, another type of celebrity – Celebrity Cruises – is being
honored for having the world’s greatest ships.
Seven Celebrity ships – every ship in the fleet that falls into the
large-ship category – ranked in the top 10 in Condé Nast Traveler’s annual
“Best Cruise Ships in the World” survey, results of which are published in
the February 2004 edition. The aptly named Constellation (Join
us in the Caribbean as we sail on the Constellation November 2004)
is the star of the show, honored with the number-one spot and the highest
overall score yet (89.1) for a large ship.
Summit ranked second overall, but first in the category of service; Century
ranked fourth, and was the top pick in the food category; and
Infinity, Mercury and Galaxy ranked fifth through seventh, respectively,
and Millennium ranked ninth (the balance of Celebrity’s fleet – the
1,354-guest Horizon and Zenith – were among those honored in the medium-ship
category).
The
Inside Passage
is 1,000 miles of epic scenery, noble wildlife and living
history. Our cruise begins in Vancouver. A city filled with parks and
gardens, Vancouver’s countless attractions include the historic Gastown
District, the waterfront, Stanley Park and the Aquarium. As each new bend along
the Inside Passage presents a panorama more breathtaking than the last, we
arrive in the firstl port of call, Ketchikan, once a fishing camp of the
Tlingit Indians. Ketchikan which has the largest collection of Totem poles in
the world. Go fishing or sample some smoked salmon at Anabelle’s Parlor. We
then visit Hubbard Glacier where we will probably witness icebergs being
calved from the glacier’s face. Our next port of call is Juneau which
is a charming blend of cosmopolitan and frontier styles, complete with its own
walk-up glacier, the Mendenhall. Just outside Juneau is Tracy Arm, a
30-mile-long fjord adorned with two shimmering glaciers and sprinkled with
icebergs. In Sitka, Alaska’s russian heritage comes
alive. Netsled on the coast of Baranof Island, the village offers many
picturesque vistas including the view from atop Castle Hill.
Tours
There are many onshore tours available at each port of call.
You will be given directions on how to reserve your selected tour, upon arrival
on the ship. We recommend that you only select one or two tours in each port so
as to allow time to enjoy each historic town. Some of the tours include:
Helicopter rides up to Glaciers and Fjords. You can even
land on a Glacier.
Float plane tours through some of the most spectacular
scenery in the world.
Kayaking along the inlets. This is a great way to get up
close with Alaska.
Wildlife and Whale tours are very popular.
Hiking and biking.
White-water rafting along some wonderful rivers.
Guided bus tours are available in each town.
Deep-sea fishing- you are sure to land some nice salmon.
After you have booked your cruise- go online to reserve
your shore tours at www.celebritycruises.com

Why did we pick the Infinity?
Infinity, placed in service in 2001, is one of the newest ships in the
Celebrity Cruises fleet. The ship features a casino, conservatory, cinema,
theater, a health spa, and other public rooms.
AquaSpa SM is a 25,000-square-foot facility with 16 treatment rooms and a
fitness center. Treatments offered at the spa include manicures, facials and a
range of massages. At the fitness center, guests can hire a personal trainer,
and swim in the resistance swimming pool.
Infinity features a two-story-high conservatory, a unique botanical
environment designed by Emilio Robba of Paris. The conservatory was created to
give guests the opportunity to admire flowers while enjoying a refreshing
drink, or collect their own bouquet.
Guests can dine in the main restaurant or in one of the ship's specialty
restaurants. Celebrity's specialty restaurants offer tableside cooking,
carving, and flambe, and feature a wine cellar with over 175 premium labels
from around the world.
Infinity's SS United States specialty restaurant serves an entree first
served in the dining room onboard the original SS United States cruise ship
during the 1950s: Roast Long Island Duckling a l'Orange Stuffed with Fruit.
The restaurant is decorated with glass panels from the SS United States cruise
ship.
The ship has one indoor and two outdoor pools, two indoor and four outdoor
whirlpools. The Sports Deck has a full-size basketball court, compact
football, paddle tennis, and volleyball. The Sunrise Deck has a golf
simulator, jogging track, and shuffleboard.
